Vocabulary support page (print if students require it for support)
4 IN A ROW: 2 different boards. Print and laminate. Works well in A3 for larger groups but A4 is good too. First to get four in a row wins. Students roll dice, choose a word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe pen to put a symbol / initial in that box.
Loop Game: Print and laminate the 18 cards, which form a continuous loop. Distribute among players. First player reads aloud the ‘Qui a…?’ (‘Who has?’) side, stating the word under the picture in English. The others check if they have the matching French. If they do, they read out both sides of their card, saying first ‘J’ai…’ and then the word in French, before reading out the right-hand side of their card, and so on.
JIGSAW: 16 piece puzzle where students match up images with French words. A version without the blue background is also included for eco-printing.
BINGO: 16 cards for a game of bingo, perhaps in pairs. The teacher or a student could read out French school words. Or use them for Noughts and Crosses, with students taking turns to say aloud a word in French from their card. If laminated, use a dry-wipe pen.
PAIRS / PELMANISM: Spread out face down and students take turns to turn over 2 identical cards. Students must say the word in French before they keep the cards.

UPDATES AND NEW CONTENT!
More content may be added to this Mega Bundle in the future (which you can download for free if you have already purchased it), but as of April 2020, it contains 77 games (about 490 pages).
Each pack in this Mega Bundle has multiple activities in them, to take the stress out of lesson planning and to return to again and again over the years.
Some games contain differentiated versions and you can differentiate many of them further by using the printable word mats and vocabulary lists (included in many of the files) to support students who require this.
Instructions for games are included, usually in the Teacher Notes section at the back of most files but some games have separate printable game cards or have instructions printed directly on them, especially if they are a little more complicated.
Ideal for main lesson tasks, sub lessons, starters, early finishers etc.
Please note that preparation is required for most games. This is mostly laminating (if you wish to use again) and some games require cutting (jigsaw puzzles, card games etc).
If you find yourself short of time and don’t mind skipping the laminating, there are plenty of games here which you can just print and use with no preparation.
Includes the following game types:
Four in a Row
Serpents et Echelles (Snakes and Ladders)
Other board games
Active card games
Bingo / Noughts and Crosses cards
Human bingo
Jigsaw Puzzles
‘I Have…Who Has?’ / Loop games

Battleships-style grid games

And more!

Depending on your time allocated to French, the age, ability and experience of your students, you can use as much or as little of the presentations as you want, as they all start off with the basics (introduction of key vocabulary, questions and phrases and teaching points) and then progress to more challenging work and/or connected material which is useful but less ‘core’. Alternatively, use it as an early finisher activity for completion over several lessons / weeks. In addition to the crossword solution, there's an alphabetical list of answers which you can give out for support where necessary. FRENCH HALLOWEEN VOCABULARY
Use this page to support students playing the games, if required. You can display it on a screen or print it.
FOUR IN A ROW GAMES
4 different game boards. Print in colour or b&w and laminate as required. Works well in A3 for larger groups but A4 is good too. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose a Halloween word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box, and so on.
‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’ GAME 1
This game practises some of the key Halloween vocabulary in phrases alongside some numbers. Print and laminate the 30 illustrated cards, which form a continuous loop so you can start with any one. Distribute amongst players. First player reads the English language side of one of their cards and then all players check if they have the matching number of the correct item. If they do, they will read out both sides of their card. Students use ‘Qui a…?’ (‘Who has…?’) to ask the question each time. Instead of the usual ‘J’ai…’ (‘I have…’) for the other side of the cards, students could use the expression ‘Il y a…’ (‘There is… / there are…’).
‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’ GAME 2
A 20-card word-only game, similar to the one above. It uses a wider pool of vocabulary but without the numbers.
BINGO / TIC TAC TOE CARDS
Use these 30 different cards for games of Bingo (the teacher could read out French Halloween words) or Tic Tac Toe / Noughts and Crosses, with students taking it in turns to say aloud a French Halloween word from their card. If cards are laminated, students could write on them with a dry-wipe marker.

Revise and extend Halloween in French vocabulary (L’Halloween) this October, in KS3, KS4, or with adult learners, using this giant FSL crossword puzzle. There are 90+ spooky and scary themed words in this huge puzzle. Ideal for a whole lesson, or add this packet to your cover lesson plans or early finishers activities bank. You could return to it over several sessions. This is low prep, great for collaboration, printable, differentiated, has an answer key, and there’s even an optional hidden sentence challenge! Best not used with absolute beginners, as it’s designed to review AND expand students’ existing vocabulary, to provide a challenge. Depending on experience and ability of students and level of support given, this can work with Key Stage 3 and 4 and beyond.
Please click on the preview file to check suitability for your students.
Fun: Giant crosswords are enjoyable to complete.
Low prep: Great for sub lessons and busy times.
Flexible: Can fill a whole lesson or more, or be completed over multiple days.
Early finishers: Great as an early finisher activity or extension, maybe to be competed over several sessions.
Collaboration: Although it can be used for individuals, it’s especially good for pairs or small groups.
Differentiation: Alternative clue page & vocab support page.
Challenge: Fun hidden sentence extension!
Printable: PDF file - 15 pages.
HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE THIS ACTIVITY:
There are 2 versions of the clue sheets – one with just the word itself in English (to be translated into French) and an easier version with the first letter given. There’s a larger print version of the latter one too.
Choose whether to provide the alphabetical answer list, perhaps just to support certain students, or distribute it only when students have done as much as they can independently
Consider using mixed-ability groups
Decide whether to allow access to online or traditional dictionaries, perhaps later when students have completed as much as they can independently
Consider whether to use the hidden sentence challenge version (students use a blank grid with stars printed on certain squares, and then put the letters together from the star boxes to spell out a hidden word). There are 2 versions of the recording sheet for this challenge, should you wish to use them, and separate answer keys
Early finishers could be directed to online sources to check out the pronunciation of unfamiliar words
Whatever you choose, I hope your students have as much fun completing it as I did compiling it!
You might want to expand the crossword if using with larger groups but if you can’t, it will still work in standard size.

This French MFL / FSL Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (KS2 / KS3) BUNDLE will help you plan a Le Transport, Les Moyens de Transport or Les Véhicules en Français (Means of Transportation / Vehicles in French) unit. It contains a 100+ slide interactive PowerPoint presentation, flash cards, worksheets, puzzles, printable games and activities.
